Transitional Support Services
When the crisis has passed, families need help making the full transition to lives free from violence. Adults and their children at this stage need housing, jobs, life skills, recreational opportunities and spiritual strength, along with continued professional support and advocacy. Tubman Family Alliance offers a variety of facilities and services needed by families making the transition from violence.
- Transitional housing for 11 families and four single women, offering residence for up to two years
- Case management, resources, and referrals
- Counseling
- Life skills and parenting support and education
- In-home advocacy and support
- Employment preparation, education, and training resources
- Employment assistance through links with job banks and other referral centers
- Help in résumé development and assistance finding transportation for job search activities
- Housing search assistance
- Access to fifteen HRA (Housing and Redevelopment Authority) housing units for families in transition
- Limited funds available for damage deposits, rent, utilities, and housing responsibilities
- Homeownership and tenant rights education and counseling
- Access to resources including household furnishings, housing résumé, tenant screening reports, credit counseling, Housing Link registration, etc.
Services are provided by on-staff housing specialists, career counselors, group counselors and therapists, nurses, computer trainers, social workers, advocates, volunteers with backgrounds in housing and real estate, on-staff and professional drivers, and representatives of nonprofit housing agencies.
