Home-based support services
The home-based support services program provides assistance to families who need housing when they transition from emergency shelter to their own homes. The program assists families in finding permanent, safe, affordable housing, and, in some instances, can provide a four-month rental subsidy.
Tubman residential housing services include 11 apartments for women and their dependent children and one apartment that houses four, single adult women. Our well-developed housing program serves up to 25 families each year at the Minneapolis facility and through home-based services in Washington, Hennepin and suburban Ramsey counties. The housing program offers participants intensive services in obtaining and maintaining permanent, safe, affordable housing, and:
- Educates families on their rights and responsibilities as tenants/homeowners
- Provides first-time homebuyer education and counseling
- Maintains a “clearing house” of landlords working with Tubman Family Alliance who provide affordable housing
- Maintains a housing resource office
- Provides advocacy and mediation services between clients and landlords
