Get the right kind of help

Only recently has our thinking about family violence begun to change. Today, more and more professionals are calling into question the victim/perpetrator paradigm, replacing it with a growth-oriented, asset based approach designed to help people use their strengths and resources to improve their lives rather than focusing on pathology.

Victims of violence and abuse are no longer encouraged to remain “stuck” in their victim stance, and perpetrators of abuse or violence are not considered “untreatable.” The effectiveness of this new model in changing behaviors among those who have been violent offers hope that families once touched by abuse can make the transition to violence-free living.
